How you became an event designer: How did you get your start in the business?

I started my career in Floristry in 2008 after a long journey in the hospitality events industry,. I went back to university where I studied design and floristry for a year full time.

Then I went right in and worked as a freelancer with top London Designers. In December 2015 I decided it was time to launch my own, and since then Atelier Emmanuel has been evolving and growing.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

In the floristry world every day is different! On most days it’s an early start at the New Covent Garden flower market, followed by conditioning and making orders..Sometimes it’s meeting and consultations, sometimes setting up top events .. it is never boring!

What does your creative process look like?

Every new event is a new adventure. Personally, I think it is very important for me to listen to the needs of the clients, then adapt their stories to what the design will be.

I think it is always a good idea to link the invites and small details to the florals. Florals can be the link to it all and create such an impact. Scents are always something I am very aware of too, as they will always bring memory back.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Seasons .. we are always a tiny bit ahead of the seasons, and it is so exciting to see the first tulips, peonies and so on…

To what do you credit your success?

Success is such a big word. think all creatives have a hard time with it. I feel very grateful for all the experiences and challenges. My attention to details is probably something to credit.

How do you balance work, life and such a busy schedule?

Yoga, reformer pilates and daily meditation. I have been practicing Vedic meditation for the last 2 years and I can say it has truly saved me.

What have been some of your career highlights?

Oh so many.. hard to pick.. wedding in Ibiza to collaborating on projects in Monaco .. doing flowers for Dior cruise fashion show in Blenheim palace.. the list is long, I have been truly blessed.

Who has been one of your biggest mentors?

I used to freelance for Shane Connolly and I think he’s one of my biggest inspiration. I love his work and work ethic.

What’s your favourite aspect of a wedding?

I think it’s about the journey.. from the first meeting tothe final product, and celebrating love!

Which famous wedding in history would you have most liked to be involved with and why?

I think Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947. There was so much love for her and the simplicity yet elegance of it all.
